Focus Session: Jones Act Insurance

Jones Act Insurance – don’t cast off without it!

Gene McKeever, Certified Insurance Counselor
Chris Richmond, AAI

Gene McKeever from Allen Agency will describe a practical approach to insuring against claims stemming from the Jones Act (Merchant Marine Act of 1920), and against Maintenance, Cure and Wages claims based on general maritime law.   Both laws apply all the time that a crewmember is “in service of the ship”. The specific ways that they each apply will be explained from an insurance standpoint. How this coverage applies for illnesses will be discussed, using real-life examples.

The insurance ramifications of Punitive Damage judgments, and how to avoid Punitive Damage claims will be discussed.   Gene will also discuss how an Owner-Operator can get coverage for illnesses or injuries to him or herself.

This session will be highly informative and interactive, based on real world experiences, with lots of Q & A participation from the attendees.
