We have traditionally ended our conferences with our annual Awards Night Gala Dinner or, unofficially, Prom Night. It marks the end of a hectic week and allows the attendees to dress up in their best attire and get down on the dance floor. It is always a good time. This year, we had the gorgeous ballroom of the Frontenac Hotel as a backdrop to two special award presentations.
The first award was presented by Tall Ships America. Lifetime Achievement is awarded to an individual who has dedicated his/her life’s work to getting people to sea under sail and who has worked to preserve the traditions and skills of sail training.
This year it was presented to Captain Dan Moreland who accepted the award on behalf of his crew. His speech was poignant, heartfelt, and thoughtful.
The next award was presented by Sail Training International and is called the Janka Bielak medal. It is awarded to person who has made an outstanding contribution to international friendship and understanding. This year it went to our very own Nancy Richardson who stated simply, “There are tall ships and small ships but there are no ships like friendships” (I might be slightly wrong on the phrasing. It was hard to hear through my tears).
This is my favorite photo – look how thrilled Maggie is- Love it!
It was such a wonderful night. The band was awesome and the dance floor was packed to capacity. Thank you to all of our sponsors, speakers, and attendees who made this conference truly special. Quebec City, you were a delight.
